driving home through my girlfriend’s old neighborhood , stretching my gas tank that cost nearly $5 a gallon, driving past the park torn up into shreds, “gentrifying ringer” spray painted on the construction sign, passing the old house venue, big and white, for sale sign in the yard, soon who knows what that basement will see, certainly not far past drunk college kids listening to good real music with their friends like i once was, basements like that i used to stumble around in, act young, smoke cigarettes outside cellar stairs, now i am not that young anymore and i will never be again but i lived it here and i am grateful for that, allston is changing now but i have too.
